I'm not writing much because my browser keeps crashing every time I type anything on Blogger, so yeah... just enjoy the music, or don't. If you never liked my vocals or synth stuff and whatnot, you might still like this album for Gotvet's heavy ass guitars, so give it a chance... or don't. Anyway, it's nice to finally put out a new DES album after a literal decade.

Deformed Elephant Surgery - Bifrost (2023)

Listen on Youtube

DOWNLOAD from Bandcamp or Mediafire

I forgot to post it right after release, but it's not like anyone reads this blog anyway. Here's another single from the upcoming DES album, with guitars and bass by Gotvet (links to his stuff), just like the whole album. The album is pretty much finished except we're still waiting for some guest vocals and there's some mixing and mastering to be done, so it's still the idea to get it out there before the year ends.

So, yeah, this song has a straight-up pop chorus, which some people might not like, but others might like that but not the rest of it. Or maybe you'll hate all of it. Dunno, we thought it's a pretty good song and that it should be a single. The lyrics are all over the place in a bunch of languages, not necessarily entirely grammatically correct even though I tried my best, but well. That's the case with a lot of the songs that will be on the album, even more so than previous stuff. Languages are cool, you know? And if there's even a small chance that it'll increase the odds that more people will like the music, that's just a bonus. Not that anyone cares about the lyrics with this kind of music either way, though, but still.

Vlürch - Empyreal Obtenebration (2022)

The new album is finished! It would've ended up longer and better if I didn't stick to my "one album per year" schedule, but I feel like I need to stick to that schedule or I'll risk getting just as sporadic with solo releases as Deformed Elephant Surgery, so... yeah, this album may not be perfect (as if anything I did was), but at least I hope some people will find it listenable.

01. Holometabolic Heteromorphosis
02. Coulrophobia (feat. Jared Spry)
03. Matriphagic Parthenogone
04. Empyreal Obtenebration
05. Offal of Farlies
06. Synderesis (feat. Slow Crone)
07. The Inherence of Existential Dread
08. The Wind That Shreds Flesh
09. Apeiromania
10. Trypophilia (feat. Puke Borb)
11. The Feathered Serpent
12. Phantasmal Palingenesis

Also on Bandcamp, where it's free to download.

I should probably explain why this album has the same title as an album I made as Heave the Sun back in 2012 (ten years ago wtf!) since some people might think "really? is THIS how little creativity you have left???". Basically, as soon as that album was finished, I thought "I want to do better versions of these songs later", and in 2020 I already did a new version of "Feeding the Demiurge" for the album "Numen" (not necessarily a better version, since I couldn't figure out how to recreate that weird synth sound from the original song anymore, but...)

So, doing new versions of the other songs from that album is what I meant to do on this album, but... well, it didn't exactly turn out that way, since it's just the title track. Still, it's the title track of that album, so I thought I should call this album with the same name. Makes sense, right? I really wanted to do new versions of "Living Shadows of Abraxas" and "Venom of the Seraphim", too, but there was some shit that made me not have enough time or motivation. So, I might expand this album later, if I get around to it in 2023 or even later... who knows.

"Coulrophobia" and "Synderesis" were already released as singles, but I'll still mention how happy I am about Jared Spry's sax magic on the former and Slow Crone's guitar solo on the latter! Those songs just wouldn't be the same without their contributions, so... yeah. Also, another friend who wanted to remain anonymous (so he went by Puke Borb lol) did microtonal guitar to a couple of parts of "Trypophilia", which is pretty epic, really enhanced the atmosphere!

Deformed Elephant Surgery - Lewd Anime Noises (2022)

This song might have the stupidest lyrics I've ever written (at least after the first album, but let's not even talk about that), and it's full of sped-up porn samples to enhance the atmosphere. Oh, and also a sample of Jared Dines and Austin Dickey talking about feeling movement in your ass for literally no reason. And a bunch of other samples, too. Don't take this song too seriously, even by DES standards it's pretty ridiculous... and yeah, metal with dubstep influences in 2022? What is this, did the world really end ten years ago on this exact date and we're stuck in purgatory?

Guitars and bass are by Gotvet, who's (hopefully) sticking around for at least one album: https://soundcloud.com/user-531651005

Check out the lyric video on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvY_At8xp38

And of course, just like everything else, this song is free to download from Bandcamp.
...or Mediafire. Includes instrumental version and version without the samples.

Vlürch - Enlightenment and Annihilation (2021)

This album is just remastered versions of the more black metal-leaning songs from "Numen", a few of them have minor differences but that's literally it. The actual new album is coming soon, I promise. Just figured I should release this first, since, you know, it's less important.

01. Enlightenment and Annihilation

02. The Night the Sun Will Set in the East

03. Ouroboros

04. Feeding the Demiurge

05. Adorcism

Click on song titles to listen on Youtube. Alternatively, the full album in one video.

Download from Bandcamp: click this

The only differences any of the songs have from the original versions is that "Feeding the Demiurge" doesn't have the jazzy part, and "Adorcism" has new vocals at the end.

All of the songs are brickwalled to hell and back, because why would I do remastered versions of them if I wasn't going to brickwall them? You might say "wtf they were already brickwalled" and you wouldn't be wrong, but now they're doubly brickwalled! So if you want your metal to leave your ears ringing, this might just be your cup of tea. If you don't want that, then you may want to avoid this.

Vlürch - 地獄的心象風景 (2021)

Some time ago, I decided that someday I'd make a proper death metal album. I'd also decided that I'd make an album with lyrics entirely in Japanese. Well, this album is technically neither of those things, since it's not entirely death metal and not all of the lyrics are in Japanese, but it's close enough that I feel like those goals are fulfilled. Doesn't necessarily mean I won't set one or both of those goals for myself again, and actually sticking to it 100%, but I don't think that's very likely to happen.

01. 暗み
02. 死屍累々たる修羅場
03. 万華鏡地獄の回転木馬
04. ピエログロ
05. 肉傀儡
06. 人間の繭
07. 虹光身
08. 膿の海の生み

(Click on song titles to listen on Youtube, or click here for it as one video.)

This album had a lot of "firsts" for me; the first album with actual bass on all tracks, the first album with five-string bass (but not on all tracks), the first album with sanshin (but only in three tracks), the first album where I recorded guitars directly to my interface without pedals (except for compression and noise gate), the first album where the process of making songs was more "traditional" rather than just recording random shit and mashing it together, and I imagine the first album I can actually call metal without pissing somebody off.

...unless it's still not metal enough thanks to the weird psychedelic parts, the random jazz part and synth bit in the third track, the borderline nu metal-ish fourth track, the entirety of the seventh track and the fact that it's not released physically because everybody knows it's not metal unless it has a limited cassette run of 666 copies signed with blood.

Deformed Elephant Surgery discography (free download)

Since there's a limit of 200 free downloads a month on Bandcamp and that has run out three times, I figured it's time to have somewhere that people can download all the DES albums from without having to go on potentially shady sites.

Currently, the entire discography is free to download and there is no option to pay (except for the latest single but you still shouldn't pay for it). If you want to support DES, don't.

With regards to the older stuff, please keep in mind that I started DES as a solo project when I was 15 in 2009 so everything before around 2012-2013 is absolute shit and cringily trying way too hard, etc. I regret a lot of early lyrics, song titles, etc. but the past can't be changed, and judging the late 2000s' and early 2010s' myspacegrind/myspacecore and post-myspacegrind scene(s) by 2020s' standards is kinda stupid. Don't get me wrong, it was fun at the time to just go for maximum edge and not care about anything for shits and giggles without thinking ahead for longer than a week, but it was a different time. If you like early DES, whatever, but if it's BECAUSE of the lyrics... well, please keep that to yourself and don't tell anyone about DES, ok?

I've decided to remove the download links to the first three albums. If you're into goregrind, there are thousands of artists out there who still do exactly that same type of shit, and don't try to tell me "nooo your early stuff was unique" because it was literally the most basic myspacegrind you ever heard... in fact, the worst. But since those are the albums you'll find everywhere when you google DES, unfortunately that's the legacy.

I haven't included split albums because I never got to download half of them myself, and the ones that were done directly with other artists/bands are all either available somewhere else or no longer available anywhere; I also honestly don't remember half of the splits I've done, so... yeah, that's shitty of me, but I don't remember much of my life from around the time most of the splits were done. Sorry for the inconvenience.

If anything gets deleted (Mediafire does that sometimes), let me know and I'll reupload.

This is definitely my heaviest and noisiest album, but also the most accessible in the sense that it's probably the closest to any genre of standard metal I've ever done. The title track does push into some kind of avant-garde territory, though, I guess.

Vlürch - 黑魔經 (2016) + Kenosis (remastered) (2018)

Somehow I forgot to post the 2016 album, 黑魔經, when I finished it in the October of that year, even though it's almost certainly my best album ever. I'm not sure how I managed to do that... and by "that" I mean both the album and forgetting to post about it. Well, here it is now, a year and a half late.

I also decided to remaster the 2014 album, Kenosis. Now it sounds a lot better, or at least louder. New album art, too, an edit of a famous painting of Jesus, which is somewhat more fitting considering the religious themes of the album. Whether it's pro-religious or anti-religious is up to the listener to decide, within reasonable limits.

The song Naraka is slightly shorter than originally; I cut the kinda random pop-ish part with clean vocals because it felt a little out of place. The title track also has a small change in the buildup to the chorus (if it can be called that), giving it more impact.

I was worried I wouldn't finish an album this year, but I did. Just in time for Finland's 100th independence day, too, even though I forgot to post it in this blog. ०८◜◜०ⴕ

So, I just finished this new album. It's pretty epic if I can say so myself. Most of the songs have lyrics in random as fuck mixtures of various languages and plain and simple gibberish, though there's some English as well, and whenever any of it makes any sense it's something about religion and mythologies. Not in a way that's pro-religion or anti-religion, just about that stuff. Anyway, I hope people like it, but if not, tell me why because I honestly think it turned out better than anything I've ever done before; I mean, this is a bit like how I wanted "Empyreal Obtenebration" to sound but just wasn't good enough at anything yet to do that, but on the other hand there isn't all that much in-your-face synth stuff*. And I don't sound like Gollum anymore when I sing clean vocals, at least not unless I want to. Anyway, let me know what you think if you listen!

Here's my Facebook page, by the way, if you wanna "like" it.

*Speaking of which, I kinda want to do a new, better version of "Feeding the Demiurge" one day in the future. The reason I haven't already is that I have no clue how I got that weird ass synth sound and haven't succeeded in getting that type of a sound again. Even if it sounds ridiculously bad and doesn't fit the song, I feel like it's an important part of what makes that song what it is and if I'm gonna do a better version of it, well... it'd need to have that anyway. Maybe if I get in that successful mood without having to arse too much, I'll also do a new version of "Four-Dimensional Fractal Maze". I probably wouldn't make it as dissonant, though...

So yeah, it took a while to get this album to the point it was ready to be uploaded anywhere, mostly because of unrelated things and stuff... all the songs were like finished a pretty long time ago, but there were things like my voice getting all shit and at least Nves having a life and whatnot. Anyway, here it is, if anyone actually gives a shit, which would be nice.

Monday, 26 August 2013

New Smunctrum song, "Hungry Swarth"

So, here's finally a song that's ready to be uploaded in its entirety, and it'll be on the album that's in the process of being made... and there won't be any physical copies of it (unless some record label is up for charity, heh), even though that'd be cool. It's just that it'd be really difficult to arrange, both in terms of actually releasing it like that and how profits would be split.

I did most of the vocals, but around 0:30 and 1:00 is Jesus, and 2:50+ is DK. And of course, I did drum programming, too. Jesus and Nves recorded the guitar stuffs, and the latter also the bass. Not sure what the genre is, but industrial black metal and noisecore seem to be the most descriptive labels. Blackcore, of course, but that'd get the haters going a lot faster.

New Smunctrum stuff

With some new members and a slight genre change, there'll be a full-length Smunctrum album sometime this year. Not sure when, since only three songs are done so far (and even they might not be 100% finished), but yeah. Here's a preview thingy to annoy people. Please, people who like it, get it going around the world like an STD. :P

And a necessary list of who's doing what, because yeah.

Nves (guitar, bass, programming)
Vlürch (vocals, programming) <-that's me, obviously
Jesus (guitar, sampling)
D.K. (vocals)

...so yeah, I'm the only one who isn't also in MAXD. You might think it'd get kind of awkward, but I don't really know if it is. I mean, it's not like we'd ever meet in person.

Heave the Sun - Ritual Metamorphoses (2012)

Even though I hadn't been posting anything about doing a new Heave the Sun album, well, that's what's finished now. :P Well, an EP, I suppose. An EP that's an hour long. Yeah, it's a full-length album, okay? Although, only half of the songs are new, the rest are remastered/re-recorded versions of older songs, including a 20 minutes long version of "Feeding the Demiurge". I'm sure someone will like it. If not, well, it's okay.

01. Four-Dimensional Fractal Maze
02. Ritual of the Pegasus (by Which the Megalith Tribes Embodied Droughts)
03. Miniature Sphinx
04. Metamorphosis of the Prophet to Light
05. Violent Surgical Prophecy
06. Feeding the Demiurge

...and download: http://www.mediafire.com/?izqcbolj5b65a76

Of course, I've uploaded all of the songs to Youtube, so click the song names if you want to listen them there.

I'm pretty proud of it, especially the song "Violent Surgical Prophecy", since it kind of turned out the way I wanted it to be, instead of just something that was a fail at something and an unintentional success at something else.

If anyone has a music blog and they want to post this, please do, or if you just want to tell your friends who might like it, tell them, since, you know, that'd be nice, since I'm a selfish asshole. Yeah, wanting people to listen my music makes me a selfish asshole. That's not my logic, but everyone else's, apparently... since it makes me a "mainstream person" in some fucked up way. Oh well. :P

Heave the Sun - Elysium and Inferno (2012)

I hadn't really posted anything about doing this, but yeah, two new full-length Heave the Sun albums. How do I do stuff so fast? Well, there's a very simple explanation to why these two were finished so soon after the first album and the DES album that just happened to get finished around the same time; "Inferno" was already 75% done by the time I finished "Empyreal Obtenebration", like some people might know, although I'm not sure how they could know that. Anyway, "Elysium" pretty much came in one huge surge of inspiration. But they're so different that it'd feel wrong to clump all songs together on the same album ("Elysium" is folk rock/prog metal/post-rock or something like that, "Inferno" is symphonic/industrial black/death metal) so... this is the best way to do it, I think.

Track list:
01. Empyreal Obtenebration [X]
02. Feeding the Demiurge [X]
03. Otherworldly Reinvigoration [X]
04. March Across the Corpse Meadows [X]
05. Four-Dimensional Fractal Maze [X]
06. Living Shadows of Abraxas [X]
07. Venom of the Seraphim [X]

The whole album is 1 hour and 7 minutes long. (Click the things next to song names to listen on Youtube)

I'm really proud of the whole album, although some of the clean vocals could be better... but that's because I got a bit lazy and wanted to put this album for people to listen as soon as possible. That's the same thing that happens every goddamn time I make any album; the one night when I don't sleep and in the morning I'm fucking tired, then I decide "oh well it's finished, no one will notice that a few parts are hastily done" and then I regret it. Anyway, it's not like I'd regret already uploading this much, just that tiny bit about the vocals in a few of the tracks. But that's just a tiny little flaw which doesn't really bother me, so if it bothers anyone who listens, well, there's nothing you could do to fix it. :P But yeah, the clean vocals especially may need a bit getting used to if you're strictly a metalhead, since... well, you'll hear. I'm not gonna start explaining anything about my vocals or anything else in details, because I'm not that selfish... although like I said, I'm proud of the whole album; vocals included. Especially two of the songs ("Feeding the Demiurge" and "Venom of the Seraphim") are awesome in my own opinion. Sure, I could've made them better if I'd have spent more time mastering and stuff like that, but that's annoying and it's not meant to be perfectly clean; I don't want to be accused of overproductiveness or anything like that. Not that it'd be even near... but you know what I mean. Since there's a lot of non-metal stuff (especially in "Feeding the Demiurge"), it might be a bit disappointing to people who only like metal and are expecting something a lot heavier. If you're one of those people, well, this album isn't for you, although some of the songs are entirely death metal-rooted if that's an appropiate thing to say, since I started all of them as psychedelic ambient folk or whatever, and then just "expanded" them. Anyhow, you're probably not gonna like it, but if you do, go to "like" on Facebook, please.  It'd mean a lot to me to see if anyone actually enjoys this stuff.

If you're wondering about what language I'm singing: english. It's just that I can't pronounce for shit... so it sounds weird. :P Well, of course it's partially intentional, since the "style" of the vocals is what it is, which easily makes things hard to understand. But yeah, it's all in english.
